General Information:
The NATO Power Jack – NPJ allows the user to operate 12 volt powered devices in the field. It will power many devices from a SINCGAR radio, or cellular phone, to a laptop computer or GPS. The NPJ provides the ultimate in flexibility by allowing the user to access 12 volt power at two different outlets. One outlet is a plug that allows the NPJ to be plugged into the battery connection point on a SINCGARS radio and the other connection point provides a standard 12 volt cigarette style socket receptacle.
Indicator Light:
When the NPJ is powered by 24v DC the green indicator lamp on the front is illuminated indicating the NPJ is on and ready to be used.
Operational Features:
The NPJ plugs into any 24 volt NATO style slave receptacle common to all military equipment. NPJ then steps the voltage down to provide all of your 12 volt requirements.
24v DC input
When 24v DC is used to power NPJ it will continue to supply power as long as the battery pack is above 22 volts DC. If the voltage drops to 20 volts the system will shut down. The battery power can be provided via a vehicle or free standing batteries (free standing 12v batteries must be connected in series to achieve the required 24v). The length of time the NPJ powered device can be run on a battery without recharging it is dependent on several factors:
1. Condition of the battery
2. State of charge of the battery
3. Reserve Capacity (RC) of the battery
4. The amount of use of the device connected to the NPJ.
PREPARING NPJ FOR USE:
NOTICE: The NPJ should be powered up for at least 30 seconds before the device it is powering is turned on. This enables the internal components to sequentially power up with minimum power surge.
Connecting NPJ Radio Adaptor Cord:
NOTE: The SINCGAR battery box should be left intact, there are no special alterations required.
Open the compartment that normally houses the radios battery; remove the battery to clear the connector for the NPJ radio adaptor cord. Plug the NPJ radio connector into the battery connector. The radio adaptor cord will slide on with very little pressure when the connector key is properly aligned.
Connecting DC Power to NPJ:
The NPJ can be used with any 24v DC vehicle battery pack. NPJ can be connected to any vehicle with a NATO slave connector by inserting the NPJ NATO slave compatible plug into the vehicle NATO receptacle. You are now prepared to use any device the NPJ is connected to.
