The Snap-90 is a replacement power supply for the BA-5590 primary battery. It is designed to provide all the capabilities of the BA-5590 for indefinite periods using either 110vAC or 24v DC as a power supply. SNAP-90 allows the user to power any device from a SINCGARS radio to a PCS-5 or any other device that uses a BA-5590 without using any communications batteries. Connection to 110v AC is done via a standard plug and power can be provided via Genset or shore power. SNAP-90 can also be powered by connecting it to the NATO slave connector on any 24v DC military vehicle. The powered system’s reliability is maximized when the Snap-90 is connected to both 110v AC and 24v DC because then the SNAP-90 provides an uninterrupted power system (UPS) for any BA-5590 powered device. If the 110v AC power is lost (for example if a Genset fails) the 24 volt battery supply will maintain the system without interruption, If the battery input power, degrades or is disconnected, the AC power source maintains the system . UPS is crucial for mission essential communications and other applications.
