The Snap-55 is a replacement power supply for the BA-5590 primary battery. It is designed to provide all the capabilities of the BA-5590 for indefinite periods using 110vAC as a power supply. SNAP-55 allows the user to power any device from a SINCGARS radio to a PCS-5 or any other device that uses a BA-5590 without using any communications batteries. Connection to 110v AC is done via a standard plug and power can be provided via Genset or shore power. When 110v AC is used to power SNAP-55 it provides dual 12 volt DC power at 4.7 amps per channel simulating the dual power taps on the BA-5590 battery. These taps may be used in parallel for 12 volts or series for 24 volt applications. . It must be kept in mind that if 110v AC is lost (generator failure for example) then power is lost until 110v is restored. Losing power like this will not harm the SNAP-55 although power to the connected device (e.g. radio) will be lost.
